About me
Experience
that moves you.
I am a fully qualified REPS Pilates fitness instructor and qualified in Exercise To Music in 1993. I have been running small group mat-based Pilates sessions in Ashtead since 2006. I specialise in core strength, back care, post-operative care, remedial, sports injuries, anti and postnatal and gentle stretch Pilates.
My fitness background started at school and then I began teaching group exercise in clubs such as David Lloyd, Canons (now Nuffield), Virgin Active, LA Fitness, The RAC and The Rainbow Leisure Centre. I started teaching Body Balance and was introduced to Pilates which is now my passion.
I work closely with Ashtead Chiropractors and Ashtead Osteopathy offering Access Pilates to provide clients with a more personal and effective solution for postural and alignment issues and to ultimately increase core strength. I was trained by a qualified and practising Osteopath with Pilates Solutions in the Pure Pilates method (Pilates Institute).
The foundations
The history
of Pilates.
Pilates takes its name from Joseph Pilates. A German-born immigrant to Britain and then America. He devised the Pilates method as a new approach to exercise and body-conditioning in the early decades of the last century.
Joseph Pilates was born near Dusseldorf in 1880. He was a sickly child who was determined to make himself strong and healthy. He took up body-building, to the point where by in his teens he was getting work as a model for anatomical drawings.
Joseph Pilates was perhaps the first influential figure to combine Western and Eastern ideas about health and physical fitness. He researched and practised every kind of exercise he could. This ranged from classical Roman and Greek exercise regimes to body-building and gymnastics. He set this alongside practising the Eastern disciplines of yoga, tai chi, martial arts and Zen meditation. Additionally, he studied anatomy and animal movements.
Dedicated to his task, he sampled every kind of exercise that he could and carefully recorded the results.
